Daily Lifes

Daily life for these people were basically the same, which was a routine. As part of their routine they had to wake up early and start to head out to the mills and work long hours with no breaks or small periods of breaks that were for food or restroom. the children didn't go to school so they had no education and were basically only taught the trade that they worked in. After work these children went home to continue to work around the home because they had chores at home. They had no time to play or learn anything at all. So their daily life just consisted of work and more work and an occasional.

Same Challenges

Child labor is still going on today. It’s just a different form of labor. Even people face these same problems today. Children worked long hard hours for little pay. The same thing is going on today in the world. People work long hours and some work two jobs to make a living for their families. People spend more time at work then they spend at home. Most of the time people is one step always from being homeless. Just like times were hard for the children it is just as hard for the people that children and homes to take care of. Sometimes people don’t even have enough food to put on the table. People work as hard as they can to make a better life for their self and the families they have. Sometimes they don’t realize it is a big in pack on their lives. This can destroy a family. There is still a social class pyramid but it’s not that visible like it was during that time period. If you were not born with money then you were going to have to work and suffer just like everybody else that is trying to make something of their lives. There is still labor but we have to change that.

Social Class

The social classes pyramid was to indicate where people where in life. People that had money was at the top of the pyramid so they didn’t have to work hard for anything. Now the children that suffered child labor was at the bottom of the pyramid. They had to work to make a living.
Since they was at the bottom of the pyramid this made a big in pack on their lives. Everything that they did was work. They worked 18 hours a day. That mean they didn’t have a life to live or anything. It also mean they got little sleep. This is what people that had no money did. They was treated like trash because they did not have the money. Most children was dirty and was not feed all the time. Since there was only a little bit of money there was not enough food for everybody to get a lot. If you was born with money you didn’t have to worry about these problems. These problems made it hard for the families. Families were more at work then they was at home. Families never got to spend time with each other. Child labor effected everybody life’s during this time period.

Child Labor Reform

The efforts began to change child labor in 1916. The Child Labor bill was signed by President Woodrow Wilson. This bill said that the federal government could regulate child labor. Previous laws against child labor only existed at the state level and were not in forced by the law. The Keating-Owen bill was over turned two years later. When the Supreme Court ruled that it limited state powers to regulate labor and exceeded federal authority.
The Child labor decreased in the 1920’s. More to changes in the cotton industry than this law started to affect the social reformers. All the places that the children were working at needed many workers, and new fabrics and techniques made mill work more difficult. The law said that an adult was to be used for these jobs. This was a big part of American history because it change children lives.. They didn't have to work long hours anymore. The laws finally help the children. Since America made this law now children are allowed to have a childhood. Children were also allow to work at the age 14 years old if they want to have a dollar. There is no more child labor in the United States.

Learning About Child Labor

I have learned a lot from doing this project. A lot of children now a days get what ever they want and complain when they don't get one thing. A lot of children does not know how to even work for a dollar.I have read a lot about the child labor. I know from my own point of view i wouldn't be able to work long hard hours like these children did.
Children was used at such a young age to work for little pay. They did not have a chance to play or have a natural childhood. There was no good times for these children cause most of the time they were to tried to have fun. Children worked in mines, mills, factories, and even did farming. Children was forced to work.
This have showed me that as a child in American now i don't have to worry about working long hours. Children in this present time is spoiled and does not know what a true meaning of a dollar is. We have everything handing to us. One thing is that now we are protected by the law as children  now to work at such a young age. This project showed me how lucky I am to be a child in America today.
